It’s time to let the late summer day lilies have their day in the sun. They come too late for our open garden day so only get loved by me (and the truly dedicated “by appointment” visitors) and somehow I find myself feeling fiercely defensive of them. Here are a few of my lovely troupers and I defy you not to admire their brio. Don’t give me any of that anti-orangist nonsense. These are magnificent

Now I have got that off my chest, you can have a look at the rest of the garden. I need to be quick though as I’m promised a sneaky “dry night” glass of wine because its so nice out on the patio.
Basically, everything is descending into late summer chaos. A haze of fennel and daucus wafts across every viewpoint, softening the edges (and hopefully obscuring the weeds). The agapanthus are going gangbusters and I can barely wait until the nine new plants (in fancy shades of dark indigo, purple and icy white with a blue throat) coming on in the greenhouse are big enough to join the party (though where????). For the first time ever one of my yuccas has flowered. It is a wonder. Mum says her’s (of which this is a seedling) flowered once then gave up the ghost. I am now frantically googling yucca care as this is so lovely I’ll be gutted if it is a once only event. The white hebe seedlings I yanked out of the wall in the herb garden and planted in the long border to serve as a windbreak have thickened up tremendously were quite delightful this year, flowering profusely for weeks. Result!
Anyway, hope you like the snaps – I’m off for a glass of pink

Your Yucca is like a bride in her beautiful wedding gown. Stunning. I hope she flowers again each year.
I’m always in awe of your photographs as you know but also I love to read your tales. I’m transported with your descriptions. I think it’s time for that novel Karen. Enjoy your glass of pink first! 🤣😘
