Dame Edna and the frogs

We have had two glorious days. Moral fibre has frayed. Household chores have been abandoned for the wheelbarrow and kneeling mat. The ironing pile, once reduced to a mere foothill, is now a vertiginous ridge walk of Munros. Tomorrow’s forecast is for largely fine but thereafter gloomy. Normal laundry service will resume with the gloom.Continue reading “Dame Edna and the frogs”

Karma Chameleon Days (Red, Gold and Gree- ee- ee- een)

On one of the rainier days last week I finally got to some financial admin I had been putting off. I had to query a tax claim. Well, the long and short of a very dull story was that the tax lady’s understrapper replied to my missive (she being too busy) giving up all claimContinue reading “Karma Chameleon Days (Red, Gold and Gree- ee- ee- een)”

And we have…. technicolour

The next day it had grown to a pleasing inch atop the hedges, but still, when you chomped on it in wellies, the grass and soil came through. Since then it has snowed steadily in the afternoons and eveningsContinue reading “And all at once, there was nothing”

Coorying In

Increasingly, I have to trick the dog into going out for a walk. At the sight of the lead she hides under the kitchen table and I have to lay a trail of gravy bones to get her into the porch (where there is nowhere to hide….). She has a point. The rain is ceaseless,Continue reading “Coorying In”

Reversing the sausage…

We are back to alternating days of grey sleet and rain and frosty sunshine. Comfort food has come to the fore and I am snazzing up my porridge with the pears I bottled in late summer. I thought I had overdone the bottling this year but I am powering through them. I like the wholeContinue reading “Reversing the sausage…”
