As day 2 of Advent draws to a close I can report negligible festive progress.
- Cakes baked – still zero
- Christmas jumpers knitted – Now down to one and a half arms missing. On the look out for some victims of industrial injuries feeling the cold
- cards – still in the drawer
- presents – squeezed in half an hour of desultory internet purchases. Only included two items for myself – very abstemious
- personal glamour and grooming – still resemble Gandalf but haircut booked for the day before the Christmas party. If the trains go down I will send a supplement to the invitation insisting everyone else dresses as Orcs or Dwarves to keep me company. No Elves will be admitted
- winter tyres fitted, bills paid, mothers collected, pilates classes attended and bulbs planted, 4, 2, 1, 1 and a big fat zero respectively
The way I look at it, I have now cleared the way for enhanced productivity levels tomorrow and the best thing to do tonight is to preserve my energies. Lyra is fully on board with this approach

Advent quiz question No. 2
