Day 16 has proved rather swings and roundabouts territory. See for yourself:
- Leftover party tiramisu consumed – maybe a little bit…..
- Christmas jumpers knitted – I have gone backwards! It became clear at an ungodly hour yesterday that there was not enough purple wool for all around the arms, back , front and sleeves. So I am going to have to unknit the already completed arm and back stripes and do a bit of a rejig. Curses…..
- cards written – all of them, and I have filled and posted ten parcels. Genuine progress on this front. Well done me! And sorry to all the people behind me in the post office queue.
- Presents – hampers half filled, just need one more decent baking day and I’m done. After that its the wrapping….
- bulbs planted – none. I have no excuses
- gift pheasants that should have been plucked but weren’t -2. Definitely need to do them tomorrow!!
- pilates exercises completed – an inordinate quantity as I did my physio set this morning (well apart from the pelvic floor again….) like a good girl AND mum and I went to the last Pilates class of the year this evening (at which some sadist- when asked for any “special requests” – suggested stomach exercises. To add insult, the lovely Jools thought a few squats would add Christmas joy)
Santa’s elf is still slightly tired, achey and testy, but I do think my tolerance levels are gradually improving (Keith and Mum will not agree, I suspect, each having caught me at the thin end of various wedges today – but really the hump recovery time was pretty impressive and no criminal damage or assaults were committed. Saintly really).
A walk round the Hirsel woods this morning blew some clouds away. The thundery sky and low sun delivered lots of strange, underglow lighting effects but, thankfully, no rain. We have reached the stage where Lyra and the bleached grass in the undergrowth match almost perfectly. This was demonstrated on several occasions when she plunged in amongst the dying thistles and brambles to snarf up some tasty items (deer poo I suspect). All through the woods there are strange little twiggy wigwams. I can’t decide whether they are pheasant shelters or hides for pheasant hunters. I’m hoping the former – I like the idea of pheasants chilling out in woodland bivouacs. I shall still be plucking and cooking the two birds currently dangling in the coal shed tomorrow, but it would be nice to think they had a pleasant camping holiday before the evil hour.
Anyway, I am off to pull out and reknit this damnèd jumper. Quiz question and answer below. Show off your pop skills with question 16!
