A very quick and scratchy one today as it is prodigiously late. The weather has been foul. We walked poor Lyra in siling rain this morning. To the floofster’s credit she sallied forth without excessive dragging and limited her expression of disapproval to shaking the water from her coat the back seat of the car, thus drenching mum and ( just as we had breathed a sight of relief at getting out of the deluge……
As predicted – the rain spurred me into action and I have done two loads of washing and the most time consuming of the chores on the list – which took ages! The meter reading snafu has been resolved, the bills paid and various kitchen fitters, electricians and other artisans have all been put to rights for good order.
Elaine the fish lady came today and, having selected the slippery fellas in my dressing gown in the drizzle, I made a proper effort and if I do say so myself the crispy fish and chips with oriental spicing turned out beautifully.
Buoyed by these triumphs, I finished an arm of the Christmas jumper and started on the front. I decided to add some cabling and what have you. Obviously I was going off piste – so the crucial bit was the initial row – making sure I had the roots of all the cables and patterns evenly spaced. This involved a calculator and a frown, but for once I actually managed symmetry without resorting to drawing a chart or, more importantly, having to rip out the first three rows. Anyway – I suspect it won’t be one of my best but so far so good.
And on this buoyant note – I’m off to bed.
Todays quiz question: What colour is a juvenile cormorant?
Yesterday’s answer: Priest stranglers or Strozzapreti is a type of hand-rolled pasta from Italy. It is named “priest stranglers” because of a legend that priests ate it so greedily they would choke. It is excellent!
