I have been gardening in and around the pond the last few days and keeping an eye on the wildlife. The wilder throes of passion seem to have died down amongst the frogs but I have noticed long ribbons of toad spawn in the Ibiza pool tangled up amongst the tapioca style frogspawn. The toads seem to be a bit more furtive.
The newts have gathered. I counted seven lurking around the edge of the spawn pool. They are clearly scoffing the frog spawn. However, there are a few wriggling commas amongst the water forget-me-not so I think we should still have a decent supply of froglets and toadlets later on.
Lyra is fascinated by the pond. She can’t quite decide to get in but is constantly dibbling and dabbling at the edge.
