December Dilettantism

Oh my, I have been remiss! First post of December and it’s almost half way through! In my defence, it has been just a little frenetic the last couple of weeks. A quick catch up follows and I shall return to the usual beat of dog walks and hedgerow watching tomorrow. The first few daysContinue reading “December Dilettantism”

Doomscrolling

It’s hard not to at the moment. Obsessively monitoring news from Ukraine isn’t going to help anyone, but nonetheless I find myself scanning the updates morning and evening and at odd times in between. I sat half undressed on the edge of the bath yesterday evening for a full ten minutes watching an interview withContinue reading “Doomscrolling”

Using the plot

The produce is really starting to come home to roost now. We are drafting in the neighbours to try and keep on top of the gluts. The rainy spells have finally shifted me out of the deckchair on the gin terrace. However, in anticipation of next year’s summer balcony boozing I have started the firstContinue reading “Using the plot”

Rainy Day Madness

Proper rain came at last yesterday, just after mum and I returned from walking the pooch. Since then we’ve had gallons of the chilly wet stuff, much needed by the garden, but a little dreary for the humans. Alas, it put an end to my excuses for not getting on with indoor jobs. Yesterday thereforeContinue reading “Rainy Day Madness”

T-1

I have finally sat down with a gin and tonic and my feet are gently throbbing. However, I think the initiative has been regained. Monkey’s jumper is complete – so that’s the most important thing done. Wrapping paper has been plastered on anything that looked like it might be a present and some that didContinue reading “T-1”

Self Preservation

The skies are intense at the moment. This morning there was a darkly luminous grey. A few days ago there was a dawn of the most startling fuchsia which had me prancing around the garden in my dressing gown. When I wake in the wee small hours I find stars so startlingly bright that IContinue reading “Self Preservation”

Crabby, moi?

We have two crabapple trees in the orchard and this year they are festooned. The first to ripen has long, reddy orange fruits which are perfectly edible raw – I think they have a tang of lychees – but which cook up beautifully. They generally crop well and every year brings the crabapple challenge. LyraContinue reading “Crabby, moi?”

Playing in..

It has been too windy for gardening the last two days so, at long last, there has been an excuse to stay in between dog walks. In a fit of enthusiasm, on the first day of indoor weather I mopped and polished the kitchen floor. I later took Lyra for a muddy walk in theContinue reading “Playing in..”

The thrill of the chase

We had light but steady rain almost all day today. I felt positively bobbish when I went out into the drizzle first thing – I could have a lazy hour or two with a podcast and my knitting with a clear conscience and, even better, the rain would soften up the soil for resumed weedingContinue reading “The thrill of the chase”
